I’m putting together a device design contest. Here are the requirements so far, do you guys have any other advice of what to add to this? By the way, if anyone wants to start competing, feel free, there will be cash prizes available in the future.
Mobile Tracking System
What: This is a specification for designing a mobile tracking system.
Summary: The mobile tracking system has to be a self-contained unit, that once activated will either allow itself to be queried for a location, or have the capability to publish that location. This M2M communications should primarily be done over GSM.
Specific Requirements:
1.Once activated, the unit’s location should be available for at least 48 hours.
2.The total cost of the unit, including the labor to assemble it must not be greater than $100, assuming that 5000 units will be ordered at a time.
3.Location updates are available at a maximum of 7 minute intervals.
4.The unit should be packaged in a consumer-grade packaging.
5.The unit’s weight must not exceed 250 grams.
6.The unit’s size must not exceed 15cm x 15cm x 10cm
7.The battery does not have to be rechargable
8.The unit must be able to public location wherever cellular service is available
9.The unit, when operating within a standard vehicle, must be able to get GPS-level accuracy (6-9 meters), and when the unit’s view of the sky is obscured, the unit must have 25 meter accuracy.
