GPS LS20031 giving wrong date. Firmware?

Hi,

I have a GPS module LS20031 with internal FW AXN_1.30 29BF.

It has been laying around for a time but this week I hooked it up using a 3.3v FTDI TTL-USB.

The data is coming nicely at 57600 and looks almost as expected. The date is wrong from this device.

It shows 2001/12/6 instead of expected 2021/07/20.

Example from the datastream…

$GPRMC,143408.000,A,5xxx.6922,N,01xxx.3979,E,0.11,89.54,061201,A*7A

I can only guess the firmware is bad and the later have firmware AXN_1.5. There is tools out there to dump and flash firmware but I don’t have the firmware. Do you at SparkFun have any link to firmware?

The chipset is MTK3339 and the smilar firmware to be found when googling is for MTK3329 and that seems not to work…

I really need to get the date out of this :? …

Best regards

Carl

I suspect that the GPS week rollover that happened in 2019 might be what’s causing the issue. You can read more about this event in the link below.

A quick calculation in my head makes that very probable :frowning:

So now I need to find new firmware or something to make the device understand we are past 2019…

Anyone?

Yeah, either that or do the calculation on whatever the GPS is feeding data too and correct it there. :frowning:
