hi guys, we tried to test gs407, but we never succeeded to change the settings (port baud rate, update rate, output message…) by ucenter. it looks like the settings were not written into the chipset (but definitely go through rx of gps module). and it always output “$GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58”. i appreciate if you guys could help us solve this problem.
Same problem here.
Since 3 days I’ve been trying to write something to the GPS.
I’ve received the GPS 4 moth ago. Maybe it’s a manufacture failure.
Seems the GPS is working in the manufacture settings because I receive this message:
??:??:?? $GPRMC,V,N*53
??:??:?? $GPVTG,N*30
??:??:?? $GPGGA,0,00,99.99,*48
??:??:?? $GPGSA,A,1,99.99,99.99,99.99*30
??:??:?? $GPGSV,1,1,00*79
??:??:?? $GPGLL,V,N*64
But I get a time-out every time I want to write something through RX.
According to other comments we aren’t the only ones:

I’m using the Serial port of the Floss JTAG and Lisa/M for UART tunnel to 3.3V supply.
And this Breakout: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10496
Its possible to program the GPS using the USB ports on the LEA board. But the warranty will be gone after modifications and the problem wont be solved (I think).
Thx 4 any hint

Make sure that echo is set to off for the GPS port in order to get rid of all the superfluous GPTXT messages.
Example:
stty -F /dev/ttyS2 -echo
