Heat sink

Can someone indicate to me a good article, document or something else about how to calculate aluminum heat sink for to220 and surface mount components?

Thanks

You can do some simple calculations by considering the power dissipated by your device and then having a look at the heatsinks offered by your favourite electronics supplier. These will normally be rated in °C / watt, which indicates the approximate temperature rise for a given power. This is quite dependent on conditions (orientation, airflow etc.), but gives you a good starting point.

The datasheet for the electronic component will indicate the maximum junction temperature, but you want to stay well below that. I normally like to stay within 10 or 20°C temperature rise for the heatsink, depending on the environment the circuit needs to run in. That is, if it’s dissipating 2W (for example), you want a heatsink rated at no more than 5 or 10°C / watt.

Thank you guys!
