Help on firmware upgrade for GM862-GPS

Hello,

I ask your help on firmware upgrade for GM862-GPS, my firmware is

07.02.401 and I’m trying to put the 07.02.404 but with no success.

I use the sparkfun board with rs232.

The problem is that when I release the ON pin (step 9, see above) I

cannot see the message “Programming flash…” (step 10), keeps blinking

state.

Can you help me?

Thanks in advance & Best Regards

Carlos Oliveira

My procedure:

UPGRADE PROCEDURE

1-Unzip the TFI.zip file in your own folder.

2-Launch the TFI.exe .

3-Remove the supply from the module.

4-Connect the COM used port to the module RS232 connector in the EVK.

5-Select the baudrate and the COM port used.

6-Click over the “Download” button.

A bar starts blinking.

The message “Power ON the MS: Linking…” is shown on the right corner

of the window.

7-Supply the module or the terminal.

8-Put the ON pin to low state for 5sec. (Terminal is automatically

turned on)

9-Release the ON pin.

The message “Programming flash…” is shown on the right corner of the

window.

10-Wait until the window “Download succesfully completed” appears.

Maybe u can try to turn off the module and turn it on again.

but as you can see on the procedure I did that …four times , and I think i’ve been lucky , since I’m doing a very danger procedure, and my module still working…

Somebody already do it with this module?

There is no need to remove the power, simply turn the unit off.

Then follow your procedure which looks to be ok.

A tried and tested version of the firmware here (I have used it a few times)

When you do get it working you will have a very long wait for it to complete.

Not sure if the fact that the DTR line has been switched is giving you the problem?

Hi velocet,

Unfortunately still not possible to upgrade :frowning:

do you know if is possible to go from the 401 to 404?

I tried your suggestion DTR Hi and Low , but is the same… it does no pass from the message “Power ON the MS: Linking…” , I tried also with a desktop pc, because I use a laptop with an rs232 emulator and I was suspecting on this, but…

I also increased the power supply from 9v to 12v on the module.

Is this related with sparkfun rs232 module?

Hope you can help me :-(…

Best Regard

Hi Carlos,

I use the roundsolutions boards and my own. I don’t have the sparkfun EVK but I did take a quick look at the schematics and the only difference I could see was the DTR line.

There should be no problem with 401 to 404.

You could download the 403 firmware http://www.roundsolutions.com/techdocs/ … 03_TFI.zip and see if that goes any better.

Use RSTerm

http://www.roundsolutions.com/techdocs/fw/rsterm.zip

Just to check that everything is working fine 115200 baud hardware handshake. (all of this should be take care of by the module anyway but test).

I have Just had another look at the schematic for the EVK, the only connections made to serial D socket are RX TX RTS CTS. The transfer program may well be checking for more than is provided. (just a stab in the dark)

You may have to ask SF directly how you are ment to update firmware.

Hi velocet

Yes, I also have tried 403 and my module is working well with rsterm.

I want to be able to be connected by gprs and also getting info from gps, so I think that I need o upgrade at least to 403 to have this working.

I will ask for SF support!

Thanks for your help!

Hello to all who read this topic,

I solved my problem with firware upgrade, I must say that I made a search on this forum and found the answer for my question:

viewtopic.php?t=5754

Indeed the only thing that I made was a connection from pin 5 to GND, I the schematic from SF module this pin is connected to ground, unfortunatelly in the board is not.

I must say that I already read this help topic in the past, but did not relate it with my board (V3) therefore did not pay so much attention to it.

I other hand I asked technical support for this board from SF , but he only solution they found to me was a refond, I must say also that Im glad for theire answer and promplty porpuse me a money back refond , but as TS I was hoping a lot more help than this, even because this is a serious problem on theire board , most certainly many customers already complain about this.

Nevertheless many thanks to all that reply me in my thread, and keep this good forum !

Regards

Carlos
