How can I use a standard FTDI cable on LilyPad?

I have a standard Prolific USB to FTDI cable I bought for interfacing with a wifi router. The Lilypad should work with this right?

It has 4 wires. Red-Vcc, Black-Gnd, Green-Tx, White-Rx. I keep getting a sync error when trying to load the sketch.

Is there maybe a serial port speed problem? I have switched the Green and White wires around. Even tried starting the upload and resetting the Lilypad.

Or, do I have to order the special breakout board for the Lilypad?

With all or just the red and Black wires attached, I can reset the Lilypad and see the LED start flashing and speed up until it goes out.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott

I did get it working. You have to make sure the baud rate is correct, (Settings in control panel ‘System–>devices’) and you have to restart the Lilypad and then immediately upload the sketch. My cable does not have a DTR. It is only 4 wires. Hope this helps someone else.
