How do lights on induction work?

I have been wondering about this some time now. I think it is used mainly (only?) for Halogen lights. The lamps have to be connected to 2 bare (steel) wires, no insulation at all.

Is it safe to touch these wires? How does it work? Is this low voltage, low current? Can it be used for other things then lights?

Of course I have been to Google, but haven’t found any useful information.

I hope someone can enlighten me.

Thanks in advance!

I think they use 12V.

Hi Guys,

Some of the halogen lighting units I’ve seen are 12v bulbs, but I was under the impression the rails were at 120vac with a transformer in between?

Thanks for your replies.

I think both of you are right, if I look at the picture of the rails, they seem to be insulated.

12V for the bare steel wires sound reasonable.
