Hi there!
I’ve currently got a +48VDC, 8A powersupply that I would like to lower to a, say, +30VDC.
How should I do this and is it possible to increase amperage as well, or does it automatically lower when the voltage drops?
I think I could simply use a resistor to get the voltage down, but what kind of resistor should I use that can take up to a full 8A?
Use a switching buck converter. You might find the design beyond you, though.

You could use an off-the-shelf DC/DC converter module. Some reliable brands I have used before are Mean Well and Cincon. Something like [[ETA-USA OC124SC48-U DC/DC Converter 38-56V TO 24V](http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ETA-USA/OC124SC48-U/?qs=VJtzl2NKxc26L6%2F%2FdRZb4w%3D%3D).](http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ETA-USA/OC124SC48-U/?qs=VJtzl2NKxc26L6%2f%2fdRZb4w%3d%3d)
