Just installed v5.11 of IAR EWARM and it now supports native gdb servers - including openocd.
Tested with the latest svn version of openocd - programming and debugging seem to work very well.

Thanks for info. What did you mean "programming "? Does IAR EWARM support programming internal flash memory via GDB?

It supports programming when using a gdb server yes - not gdb.
