Why not just interface a PS/2 keyboard to your micro?
The [PS/2 protocol is pretty simple.

Good Idea, but im talking like the ones you have on your phones. The pocket sized ones.
You mean the micro sized ones on blackberrys and such? They are generally custom. You might find them on the surplus market but I’ve never seen one.
I’m not sure if you can still get them, but Philips (IIRC, it might have been someone else) sold a wee QWERTY keyboard for a cellphone. It was called a chatboard, I think. The interface to that should be pretty simple, and I imagine you’ll be able to find interface details online.

Its likely impossible to produce something like that in low volume for a reasonable cost.
