The Nokia “knock-off” LCD is nice, but I have a project that requires a somewhat larger LCD that is readible in direct sunlight. The Nokia is a bit small and and not quite as bright in the sun as I’d like.
The newer Sony Ericsson phones (like the K800) have an outstanding 2.0 inch QVGA LCD and they are available for about $35. If we had a good source for this LCD and some documentation about the LCD controller used, this could be a killer screen for small portable projects.

That unit is only available for sale to those that buy their controller board. The raw LCD module is what most people would want for their projects. Also, the controller inside the display is not specified - you have to interface through their breakout/controller board. Also, the readibility of the display in sun is not mentioned - I wonder how it performs in the sun (most color displays are not very good).
