LED Animation ideas for a blinky tophat 8x18

I have a 144 LED strip wrapped around a tophat (the LED strip is 30/meter so the lights aren’t in a perfectly square grid). I am looking for some good functions to create animations. They could loop around the hat or just treat the hat like a 2D grid.

I have a sine wave and a few random effects, but I am looking for more ideas/algorithms.

Thanks for the reply. Sadly I used 30 LED/meter instead of 60, so the grid isn’t square. Any letter I try to draw looks stretched. I am definitely thinking of making a version of the hat with 60/meter so I can display readable text.
