Little Soundie Audio Player Trigger

I want to use the Little Soundie Audio Player Trigger to play 2 messages. I will connect 2 push buttons to the

board so the message can be listened in english or french. The messages are

about 2 minutes long. So if someone press the english button it will play in english.

But: If someone press english by mistake and then press french, does

the english message will stop playing and start playing in french as soon

as the french button is pressed?, or the visitor will have to wait the end

of the english message in order to be able to start the french message?

I not able to perform any custom programming on the board, so I need to

know what the board can do by default.

Thanks

Yannik

Hi Yannik,

A short answer is yes, triggering another pin should interrupt a track that is playing on the Little Soundie. That said, this board is best suited for short tracks like sound effects and only has 4MB of storage space for audio files. For playing longer tracks, I would recommend using something like our [Qwiic MP3 Trigger. That will work with a microSD card anywhere from 128MB to 32GB so you’ll have plenty of storage space for your two tracks.

There are a couple of different ways you can trigger tracks that we cover in detail in the [Hookup Guide. The simplest way is to use the four trigger pins broken out on the board. This will act just like the trigger pins on the Little Soundie so you can connect something like a momentary button to one of those pins and pressing it will play a track. Pressing a second button will interrupt that track and play the second track. There is no need for programming.

I hope this answers your question thoroughly and points you to a product that will work well for your project. To learn more, I would recommend reading through our Hookup Guide for the Qwiic MP3 Trigger. Thanks for the quick answer.

Does the Papa Soundie Audio Player will also work instead of the Qwiic MP3 Trigger? It is less expensive.

I guess the Papa Soundie Audio Player trigger works like the Little, right?

Thanks

The Papa Soundie is different than both the Little Soundie and Qwiic MP3 Trigger as it requires programming to be used. The Papa Soundie is, essentially, two boards in one. The top of the board is set up for Arduino programming/control and the bottom of the board is the audio playback circuitry.

To learn more about how the Papa Soundie works and how to program it, I would recommend reading through the [Hookup Guide.](Papa Soundie Audio Player Hookup Guide - SparkFun Learn)

Hi Yannik.

The Little Soundie doesn’t have enough storage space for 2 or 4 minute long sound clips and the Papa Soundie requires you to write a program to make it function so I’m not sure either board would be a good choice for you.

A better solution would be to go with either the Qwiic MP3 Trigger or the WAV Trigger. Both will do exactly what you’re looking for and you can connect buttons to each to play a specific audio file.

You do need a 3.3 volt power supply for the Qwiic MP3 Trigger. The WAV Trigger can accept a power supply like our [9 volt wall adapter.

The Qwiic MP3 Trigger will also abort the playing track if a button for another track is pressed. The WAV Trigger has that ability but you need to put a small configuration file on your SD card to make it behave that way.](Wall Adapter Power Supply - 9VDC, 650mA (Barrel Jack) - TOL-15314 - SparkFun Electronics)](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13660)](SparkFun Qwiic MP3 Trigger - DEV-15165 - SparkFun Electronics)
