I am getting many of the Logomatic PCBs returned as the USB socket keeps getting pulled off the PCB and taking copper sections along with it. What is the best way of reinforcing the socket to the PCB?
Applying solder mask over the solder joints may help but I think that will void the warranty.
Basically any type of physical reinforcement will void the warranty as ali mentioned…but you can try a few things:
- Add additional soldering to the side tabs of the usb socket…though it depends on how much additional pad space there is available (might be ‘full’)
- Apply something like JB weld, hot glue, or similar to reinforce the housing/secure it to the PCB more firmly…even a small strip of super glue along the side might be enough
- Maybe take already broken unit(s) and test which way makes the strongest repair, then use that way as a preventative measure on the others
- You can adjust the angle of the small tabs within the housing/cables as well, though this is a fiddly process to lock together less tightly to help reduce the stress on USB connection/disconnection
Thanks for the tips. I think I have tried the glue before, and it seems to have crept inside the socket. I will check again.

Hi Ali,
Thx for this. I’ll try epoxy from JB Weld as a mask.
