I’m looking for a buzzer of sort that is not only loud enough to be heard outside in a loud environment but also be small and relatively cheap. Is this impossible?
The buzzer on sparkfun is much too quiet if taken outside
Use one of the units that are made for fire and burglar alarms.

What is the size & power requirement, if any?
Some years ago I designed a factory floor display for a British towel manufacturer that used a LOUD beeper. I forget the actual spec, but they wanted something loud enough to be heard by someone standing next to noisy machinery. I picked the loudest one I could find that would fit the case. IIRC, it was about 1.5" diameter and powered from 5V @ < 100mA.
If you can’t find one, I can look and see if I still have the file for that project – I’ve been cleaning up recently!
