Hi,
I’ve seen a couple of designs here and there that use a MAX232 with a VCC of 3.3V (the Uber board is one of these)… However the datasheet specifies that this is a 5V device…
Is this chip supposed to work at 5V or what!?

Maxim made (and others cloned) at MAX3232, which is just like the original 232 but running at 3V.
I’ve had a MAX202 (5V) working OK at 3.3V, when I didn’t have a MAX3232 to hand. I wouldn’t do it on anything that I was going to sell, though.

I am using a MAX232 in one of products right now to talk to and from the Trimble Copernicus GPS module at 3.3VDC. No problems.
