microUSB Plug (male)

Hi all!

Id really appreciate your help on a project of mine. Im looking to to usea micro usb plug, much like the one on this board:

https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10031

Except this one uses a through hole, where I would need a right angle. It doesnt matter through hole or smt. but ive been looking all over for them but I cant find them anywhere.

the reason i need it this way is because i need the thickness to be kept to a minimum.

If its not possible, I would consider using some type of connector that can can connect two boards with a right angle, very close together (no wires would be ideal)

If anyone has seen this before or has any ideas I would really appreciate the help.

Thank you,

Kevin

Thanks for the reply,

I tried there, in particular this one:

but the picture doesnt look like its complete, its missing the metal enclosure? Sorry Im not too savvy with connectors and what they are all called and the different parts to them.

Here is [one from Digikey that is exactly like the one pictured. The pictured USB is not through hole, it’s SMD. It just has a plastic mounting for screws.

What exactly are you trying to do? Most micro USB receptacles are right angle but don’t include the plastic housing. There are a few extra tabs for strengthening.

If you need something with some extra strength, check out this one, http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/e … ND/2350356.](ZX80-B-5SA Hirose Electric Co Ltd | Connectors, Interconnects | DigiKey)

The one that youve posted… isnt that the exact one in the breakout board? The only reason I ask is because im trying to make the plug parallel to the board and the one in the breakout is perpendicular.

Im making a dock for a phone, but one that runs off the power of an existing cable, so I figure to make it compatible with any cable i can build a little board with a receptacle and a plug. So you can plug any cable in at the bottom, and your phone into the top. So ideally it would be plug, board, receptacle all in a thin line.

I tried to draw an image.

So I take it you don’t want to mount it to a board? I didn’t see anything at Digikey that was right angle. To be honest, I have never seen a right angled with a plastic housing for mounting… Might want to try that auction site and search for “USB right angle panel mount”, or something similar.

No I do want to mount it to a board (that’s the green part lol) the dark gray is the plug, light gray is the receptacle and the blue is the screw.

Can I buy the right angle one I posted earlier and buy a casing/shielding separately?

Or is there any kind of connector I can use to connect this board:

To this one:

In the shortest distance possible? Preferably a connector that will snap right together? (No wires)

Those 2 connectors should work together without anything between them. But if you’re mounting these to a board, why do you need the breakout?
