I want to use the RTK Mosaic-X5 with a 5G or 4G connection, as Wi-Fi is not available where I am. To do this, I intend to connect it to a smartphone using a USB cable instead of a Wi-Fi hotspot. Is it possible to set this up while keeping the phone continuously charged ?
You might be able to use wireless charging and the USB at the same time on the phone at the same time, not sure…check your phone features to be certain
I plan to place a low-cost smartphone, which doesn’t support wireless charging, connected to the RTK base inside a box. I’m considering using a USB-C splitter to connect a USB-C-to-RJ45 cable for internet sharing with the RTK base while using the other port to charge the phone. I want to avoid using the phone’s hotspot feature since it could draw attention if someone detects a Wi-Fi network, especially as the base is in a remote area I don’t check regularly. Would this setup work?
Maybe…it again would depend on the phone’s USB config/settings
You could just use the hotspot and place the phone & x5 in a faraday cage, with only the GNSS antenna routed outside the cage to reduce the broadcast area to almost nothing. You also might be able to disable broadcasting the hotspot in the phone too
