Hi, working with the 3W star-PCB LEDs (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13105) for a project and would like some advice on mounting. Need to affix to aluminum flat bar as heat sink extension, but unsure what kind of adhesive is best for the situation. I see in the product video that a Sparkfun product thermal tape was used, but can’t find that in the catalog at the moment. I need to mount quite a few of them, so would prefer to avoid mechanical connections that involve too many steps; also the package shape and solder points don’t lend themselves to any form of hold-down with screws. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Thermal tape or thermal glue/adhesive would probably be the easiest option to attach these to an aluminum heat sink. Just make sure that whichever option you go to will adhere to your heatsink. Unfortunately, SparkFun does not carry either of those but a quick search for thermal tape or thermal glue/adhesive will turn up some options. Thermal tape will probably be your best bet here since a thermal adhesive usually requires a long curing period of up to 24 hours for it to set properly.
