MSP430 Development Board and Sparkfun Nokia LCD carrier boar

Hello, I’m trying to connect the Sparkfun Nokia LCD carrier board (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … cts_id=600), to a MSP430 Development kit (http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders … 30u64.html). My problem is that I can’t even light the display.

As I connect the Vcc(3.1V) and GND(0V) of the development board to the +Vin and GND of the LCD board, the LCD just blinks a moment and then switchs off.

The LCD is new, I’ve just soldered some pin connectors to header 1.

I don’t know whether is a power supply problem (perhaps 3.1V it is not enough?) or the LCD has been sent broken from Sparkfun.

Any advises? Thanks in advance.

I don’t see any specs on the carrier board but judging by the requirements of the LCD and the fact that the board is boosting the voltage for the backlight, it looks like the supply requirement will exceed the 100ma that the development kit can provide. You might want to try boosting the voltage output of the development kit to something like 3.5V to see if that helps but you still will be on the edge. Your best bet is to drive the LCD with a separate supply.

HTH,
