Good day, Would someone please answer my questoin…

about a month ago, Nuts and Volts magazine wrote an article about creating a tank level reader using MSP 430F1211. Because of how simple they made it sound, and I directly jumped on the web and baught the MSP20-P1121M. I also, downloaded the kickstart software form TI. But have one main problem…

How do I tell the software to dump the code throught the parallel port to the microchip?

I couldn’t find any reference material… can some one guide me to where I can also get articles about the MCP?

Hi,

your problem is that you only downloaded Kickstart software, but didn’t make any efforts to learn how to use it.

You need JTAG programmer (MSP430-JTAG) in order to program MSP430 microcontroller. This is written in MSP430F1121 datasheets.

The answer is so simply that you should figure it out by yourself if you have read MSP430F1121 datasheets, did you?

I guess this is the reason nobody have answered your question.

First of all … thank you… I am still confused…

are you referring the JTAG part, or is this a special software that would allow me to program my MSP?.. you see… I did order the JTAG connector along with the MSP… but I can’t figure out how to dump the info. I read as i much as i could about the kickstart and c-spy… no where there do they indicate how to dump the data…

After you posted your message i thought that you were talking about an application called MSP-JTAG… i looked for it and couldn’t find it… and then i thought that you might be referring to the part available from this site…

I am still lost and would appreciate your help…

hi,

your confusion may come from the fact that JTAG programmer is names “FLASH EMULATION TOOL” in IAR Kickstart.

I suggest you to read IAR Kickstart manuals, etc. There is written how to setup your project etc.

Hi again!..

you have shown me the way… thanks… I now realize in order for me to program using the JTAG programmer, you need set the Driver under the C-Spy category in the Project Option menue to Flash Emmulation Tool.

This is the asswer that I was looking for, and I spilled it out for others if any one is interested…
