Nebra Indoor HNT Miner Thermal Throttling

I was very excited to get this product and start using it, however, I’ve had nothing but problems since it arrived. Product: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/17843

The unit constantly over heats, and stops working. It’ll work briefly while it’s at room temperature, begins syncing, and thermal throttles before it can finally mine. The ONLY way it’ll work, is by placing it in the freezer. Trust me, I know, bad idea (for SO many reasons), but I ran out of options.

I contacted Nebra as soon as I noticed the issue, and they had me try numerous troubleshooting steps, everything from different placement, rebooting, improved thermal paste, a bigger heatsink, blowing a fan on it, etc. Nothing helps.

I’ve been constantly talking with Nebra through email (albeit very slow responses), but they’ve gone radio silent, and refuse to answer my emails any more. Even after creating a new ticket, they simply closed it and won’t respond.

I want to exchange the unit, but until I try that route, I’m absolutely open to more suggestions. Nebra did say I have a faulty network module, whatever that means, though it stays online just fine.

I would not advise placing the device in a freezer as potential for condensation is high and can damage components.

Unfortunately, communicating with Nebra is going to be the best way to reach a solution. I am sorry their response times are slow. Hopefully Nebra will improve on that as time goes.

If parts are indeed faulty I would hope that they could replace the defective components.

Yes, I know it’s a terrible idea, but I ran out of options, and Nebra stopped answering emails weeks ago. I don’t think I can swap out the faulty unit with sparkfun since I bought through the site, and Nebra is clearly not being any help.
