Need advice on how to achieve this or if its even possible

Would there be someway using say an XBee setup where I could have a alfa wireless usb adapter plug into a XBee with a usb expansion port and have the XBee transmit the signal from the alfa back to my laptop where I would have another XBee to receive the signal? Here is a link incase you want to see the alfa I am talking about. http://www.data-alliance.net/-strse-73/ … Detail.bok The only problem that I can think of with my limited knowledge with this kind of thing is that there would be nothing powering the Alfa and I do not know how to solve that issue.

Basically what i am trying to achieve in case I did not think of this in the correct manner is the have the Alfa adapter say a few miles away and have it so it was as if I had it plugged into my laptop at the location I am at. Basically I want to put the adapter in a rc plane and just trying to think of the lightest and easiest way to do this. I do not know much in the means of how to achieve this so I am open to other ways and or ideas if I thought of this all wrong. Also if I use the Xbee and I am able to do this would it have to be the 900mhz model as to not interfere with the wifi adapter? Thanks for any help with this

What is the difference between an alfa and a regular wireless usb router – is it just a brand? I went to the link and it does look a bit different.

There are some differences in functionality over a bunch of common USB adapters. But was just stating what I was using in trying to be as complete as possible in my post.

What do you mean by “XBee with a usb expansion port”?

Do you mean something like the USB Explorer? In that case I can’t see this working - the xbee expects serial communication (FTDI?) on the Explorer, but I doubt the Alfa provides that. You’d need a layer that translates the USB-level protocol of the Alfa into a standard serial communication that the Xbee expects. I.e. you’d have to implement a software driver for the Alfa.

yeah youre correct its what i ended up having to do though my end results were not ideal so I went a different way to get the results I needed.
