New user needing 360 degrees of coverage, which type, how many?

Hi…

New user about to order the “Sparkfun Inventors Kit v4.1 ( Redboard Quicc)” to experiment with those projects to get a better understanding.

“Sparkfun Inventors Kit v4.1 ( Redboard Quicc)”

Ultimately after I have gone through the lessons. I want to make a spinning cat toy that will sense when one of our cats gets close and randomly spin around in different directions and at different speeds for a random amount of time until it sense movement again, etc. You get the idea.

I may add the “Sparkfun Proximity Sensor Kit” as I can use some elements in there regardless of the Sensor (if that wont work)

But I may need a different sensor.

I’d like 360 degrees of coverage. But that there may not be a 360 sensor. so multiples will be needed.

Seems the “PIR Motion Sensor” may be a better fit.

Does anyone know the “width” of view for the above “PIR Motion Sensor” Meaning how many will I need to get 360 coverage?

Also seems the “Sparkfun OpenPIR Sensor” has the customizable controller:

https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13968

Can I buy 1 “Sparkfun OpenPIR Sensor” to use for the adjustable settings and connect 1 or 2 (or how many needed) regular PIR Motion Sensors to that controller/board in order ot use the same settings of the “OpenPIR Sensor/Controller”?

I hope this makes sense. If not let me know.

Thank you all!

Geo

I might suggest getting the Proximity kit, and then also the OpenPIR sensor, then integrating them/experimenting to see which one, or if combining them, works best for detecting teh kitteh

The datasheet doesn’t mention its viewing angle https://www.sparkfun.com/datasheets/Sen … .pdf…but the demo in our demo video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ce23e96JlRk might be 18 inches or so?

Thank you for the reply!

Yes I tried looking at the datasheets before I asked.

You would think that would be in there.

Its a very common spec for home security PIRs and motion activated flood lights, etc.
