Olimex USB JTAG upgrade problem

Hello,

I recently bought one of the Olimex USB JTAG devices. I plugged it in, it showed up as COM2 using the latest FTDI drivers.

I started up AVR Studio 4.01 with the services pack 3, I beleive.

It asked to upgrade the firmware, I pressed the “OK” button or whatever it was. An application popped up to do the upgrade.

I pressed the “Program” button. It went through three bars of the Erase stage and stopped. After a while it gave me an error, which I didn’t note down.

After that AVR Studio does not find the device.

Any suggestions?

Update: Got a second one from Spark fun, did exactly the same thing… Now I have two dead programmers. Anybody? Any ideas at all?

how USB-JTAG is connected to your target?

Tsvetan

I have exactly same problem (but I have not tried on second board), I’m using Mega128 Development board.

So what is the best way to fix it?

It detects the USB->COM4, also it can connect to device in AVRStudio.

But when I try to run debug it brings up lots of errors regarding can’t detect JTAG board.

Thank You.

Here is the problem exactly like mine, but I’ve tried solution and it did not work…

Here is the question: can I force AVRProg to reflash the device?

Is there any other software that can do it properly?

Or I just wasted my money on buying olimex product?

BTW USB->COM is set to COM2 now. So I technically should not get anymore issues.

Olimex should supply a warning about these issues in first place, as their products are obviously targeted for beginers, or atleast provide a tool to recover from that flaw.

Any help appreciated…

I’ve tried COM1 without any effect either…
