I believe that site owners/operators would like for people to remain on their site. On this site, when you click a link in a post, you are making the people leave this site. Why not have the links open in a new tab or window? Really gets annoying to keep right clicking on every link.
(middle click | ctrl-click | cmd-click | shift-click) is your friend.
Although it’s appropriate in a handful of places, the modern consensus is generally that it’s best to leave this decision up to the user. We strongly concur.
