OpenOCD and Segger Jlink

Hello all,

I plan to use Yagarto package to develop application on Atmel AT91SAM7X CPU, under Windows.

For HW link, I look at segger j-linl product.

They propose a j-link gdb server that seems to be limited (32k download to RAM ans non commercial use) if you don’t buy license (about 200€?)

On the other hand, I look at OpenOCD to be the server attached to this HW product but I can’t find clear information on the way to configure it. Some article tells it works fine, other not.

Can you confirm that OpenOCD supports quite well segger j-link probe?

Regards

Hello R1M,

For HW link, I look at segger j-linl product.

It looks that you still have no j-link at this moment?

If you want to use it for non commercial you can take a look at

the non-commercial version of the j-link.

But if it is a commercial development for the SAM7 cpu,

you can use the SAM-ICE too. I think it has an attractive price

compared against a full featured j-link.

You’re right. I’ve no HW at the moment and it is for commercial use.

Our problem is to find SAM-ICE: supplier said “january 15” and now day after day delays delivery…

That’s why I looked at other ways, including original JLINK

hello,

why not using olimex arm-usb-ocd?

it’s cheaper and better supported by openocd.

No particular reason to avoid such parts, just delay to get it.

What is the price and which distributor in France or Germany can supply it?

Oups, for price I got info: <60€ + shipping costs

Checkout from the Amontec Swiss company

Amontec JTAGkey-Tiny + shipping to France <€50.-

We have a large stock and we can ship worldwide at 3 days.

1 days to you in France.

Hello R1M,

if you want to use OpenOCD, you should better use

the Amontec JTAGkey-Tiny instead of the J-Link.

But if you want to buy a SAM-ICE, you can use the

GDB debugger which comes with the SAM-ICE for

the Atmel cpu only. But you should ask SEGGER too,

what kind of licenses are included in the SAM-ICE

and what are the limitation exactly.
