percent full?

I think BatchPCB is a really great idea. I’m confused by the statistics, though. Can someone help me understand them?

I see that Panel 1167 is “3% full and estimated to be 100% full”. How can the estimate of full-ness be so far off? The bar graph seems to indicate that the panel is 3% “panelized”, and 100% “currently queued”. What’s that mean? Where’s the queue? What is panelization?

Penalizing is the process where someone takes all of the individual boards and groups them together in a larger board (the panel; they come in certain specific sizes). So they are saying that someone has placed enough boards together to fill up 3% of a panel. The queue is the list of orders that people have placed, not including the ones already on the panel, that are waiting for someone to put them on the panel. It’s approximate, since it is based on size and quantity, but solving the jigsaw puzzle of the best order to place boards on a panel with the least wasted space may move some boards to the next panel or move some up in the queue.

Thanks. So, the site should really say “3% panelized and 100% full”, then?

That would make more sense.
