Problems Configuring XBee series2 with FT22RL USB programmer

I am using the X-CTU software to configure the XBee module connected through the FT232RL USB to serial programmer. I can use the modem configurations to update the firmware when in the PC setting tab but, when I click test/querie it says unable to communicate with modem. If I click modem configuration tab, the modem comes up with the XBee model number displayed. In short I can do the modem configuration but when I go back to the PC settings tab and click test button it says unable to communicate with modem. The links for the programmer and Xbee modules being used are shown below. Are there any kind of instructions available to program the XBee module with the USB to RS232 programmer that I bought? simple walk through would be great.

Do I understand you correctly…

XCTU will download firmware and you can read and write the AT registers?

But in test/query, you get unable to communicate?

If so- when in test/query, what baud rate does XCTU display in the bottom of that window, and is that the same speed as used in the setup mode?

OK, i got it to join the network but now having trouble transmitting and receiving data. Im trying to just set up a digital i/o on on the transmitter and lite up an led on the receiver.
