PTC Quirk : Beginning Tutorial 1

Hello. I’ve set up the 5v power supply on the breadboard as explained in beginner tutorial 1.

Everything works, but once

I added a PTC to the board.

When I power on the device, the LED blinks intermittently.

Only after about 10 seconds, when the PTC becomes hot to the touch

does the LED stay on continuously.

Does anyone know what is happening? Is the PTC working as intended?

the first thing i would do is make sure the PTC is connected properly on your board.

If you think the part is faulty take it out of the circuit and do a resistance check on it, it should be very very low.

The resisitance is low, 2-3 ohms. I’m having difficulty getting a reading on it w/ my multimeter when I switch the power on, presumably because its changing.

I’ve hooked it up in series (before) w/ the voltage regulator.

That behavior sounds like what I would expect if you had the PTC connected between power and ground, not in series with the power connection.
