Qwiic boards: Tips on stacking?

Hi there,

The standard 1" Qwiic boards really lend themselves well to stacking. However, I’m wondering if anyone has any tips on how to actually go about stacking these babies several boards high? The nylon standoffs SparkFun offers (e.g. https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11796) have threaded holes on either end, which is fine for mounting a single board, or maybe two, but doesn’t lend itself well for making some big Qwwic sandwiches. While there are metal hex standoffs (e.g. https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10463), it’s nice to avoid metal when possible.

Curious to hear if there’s some SparkFun products I just haven’t come across yet that could help out.

Cheers,

Adam

Hi Adam!

Either plastic or metal should be OK, but you might want to avoid metal spacers on boards that have RF connections or traces near the mounting holes. (I can’t think of anything offhand where you’d want to avoid a metal spacer, but I don’t have every Qwiic board we make handy at the moment.)

The [metal hex standoffs are nice since they will stack more than 2 boards high. While we don’t carry them, you can get a [nylon equivalent of those if you want to avoid metal. :-)](McMaster-Carr)](Standoff - Metal Hex (4-40; 3/8"; 10 pack) - PRT-10463 - SparkFun Electronics)
