Qwiic Shim not showing up on I2C bus

Hello All,

I just tried hooking up a Qwiic Shim on an RPi 3 and am not getting any response from it or connected Qwiic sensors. I got as far as the " i2cdetect -y 1 " step which executes properly but shows no devices connected to the bus. I’m not sure if there is a light on the shim that’s supposed to be on, but if there is it is not on, and no power lights on downstream devices are on, either. (I’ve tried two Qwiic Scales and 12-bit ADC). I ordered two shims and have tried them both, same result. They seem to be seated on the Pi’s pins quite solidly, so I’m at a bit of a loss. Any thoughts?

The Shim itself won’t (can’t) enumerate on the I2C bus and there is no LED on the Shim itself. If you’re not seeing life downstream then I would try checking continuity with the pins on the Pi and on a connected device with a multimeter if possible. There could be a pin not making good electrical contact.

With more jiggling I did get a downstream sensor to light up briefly. Guess I’m going to have to figure out a way to jury-rig this thing to fit better.

While more difficult, you could try ‘narrowing’ the holes for a more snug fit. Please use at your own discretion: https://www.sparkfun.com/news/802
