Re: Magnetic Imaging Tile - 8x8. Voltage breakdown and hot chip (with correct polarity)

Hello,

After connecting the “Magnetic Imaging Tile - 8x8” to 3,3V the voltage of my micro controller dev board (esp32) breaks down immediately. It looks like a short, but i cant find any on the “Magnetic Imaging Tile - 8x8” board. The resistance between 3,3V and Grd pin is 20k Ohms. One chip (sn74lvc1g139) is getting hot fast, while voltage is applied. Now I am quite worried, that the module is broken. I could go on testing connecting all other SPI and analog out pin, but I doubt that hot chip will cool itself down again. I will try on a arduino nano with 3,3v and let you know.

Optical inspections and electrical inspections did not show any faults so far. I could not check for correct orientation of the chips, because i did not find the marks in the datasheets.

Are the modules tested?

Best wishes, Julius

Further investigations might have shown, that the SN74 HC590A was misplaces by 180° before soldering.

The purple PCB is shown on: https://hackaday.io/project/18518-itera … mager-tile

The black PCB is what i received. I marked the misplaced SMD chip “SN74 HC590A”.

It seems to be the PCB Rev.3 on both images, with small changes on the sparkfun one.

Is there a way to get a functional “Magnetic Imaging Tile - 8x8” with correct placed smd components?

Best wishes, J

I have located your order and a replacement is being sent out ASAP - have a great week!
