My NEO-M9N won’t hot start, I assume the backup battery is dead. The replacement battery is a Seiko ML414H-IV01E but it’s not available in Australia. I’m wondering if there is an alternative to this? Also, looking at pics of the battery it looks like it’s soldered directly to the board via a tab and what I expect is a reflow spot underneath it. Is that correct? If so, how do I go about replacing it without reflowing it?
If you can locate another battery that’s rechargeable and 1 or 2 mAh, that would work in place of the one that’s there now.
You could also use something like a CR2030 in a battery holder but you’d need to remove the existing battery and a component from the board to stop the board from trying to recharge it.
To get the battery off, looks like the easiest way would be to heat the positive terminal with a soldering iron and then try to slide a bit of paper underneath the positive lead. Once you’ve done that, heat the negative lead and slide the battery off the board.
The extra component you would need to remove if you’re adding a non rechargeable battery would be the diode that’s direct across from the negative battery terminal.
Looks like a slightly larger capacity version. Just wondering how I can solder the underneath to the pad without reflowing it? Not sure if I can get the solder on the pad liquid than carefully placed the cell on and hope it attaches, I’d be worried that solder would squeeze out and short on the other pads.
You just need to place the leads on the pads on the board then heat each lead with a soldering iron. Then add just enough solder to make the joint secure.
Hi guys, back on this project. I have replaced the battery and it holds charge. However, it still takes 5-10 minutes to acquire a fix, ie for the blue LED to blink, even after removing power just for a few seconds when it has had lock for several hours. Am I missing something? Do I need to save some data from the last fix so it can use that to get a faster first fix? I thought the backup battery was supposed to allow this to happen automatically?
