I purchased the RFID breakout board for a project from the book Beginning Arduino. I want to do a simple project with my arduino and breadboard. I have no idea how to use this breakout board to help integrate the ID-12 with the arduino. I’ve never worked with this stuff before – I assume it’s straight forward but I’m afraid I’ll mess up the ID-12 if I do it wrong. There is talk of headers and sockets below but I still don’t see how it all goes together. Any help would be appreciated.
All you have to do is solder the .1 headers on first. This is because the those pads will be covered by the id-12 when it’s in place.
I would solder the .1 headers on the side of the breakout board that labels the pins. (that way you know what pin does what).
If you don’t want to make the breakout board permanently attached, you can use 2mm headers on the other side of the board. Then you can use the module in a dedicated project later.
Before you solder everything, put it all together dry and make sure the sensor is in the correct position and whatnot.
If sparkfun designed the board decently the two .1 headers will be spaced on .1 centers. It should plug right into your breadboard. (or course straddling the middle!)
I have one, if you need a pic or two of mine just yell!
Enjoy!
