Does anyone have any experience using the RN-42 in HCI mode? I need about 400k baud which is too fast for the SPP mode. The datasheet says that “the RN42 module must be loaded with special firmware to run in HCI mode” yet the datasheet doesn’t mention how to do this at all.
Does anyone know how to do this? And if so, how are the results? Can you really get 1.5M baud sustained?
Thanks for any help,
NJC

I’m curious as well. I need around 1Mbps. You can set the baud rate generator and it does in fact communicate at that rate, even in SPP mode. However it hangs after a bit over 19k of data.
Still no idea how? It seems odd to me that Roving Networks has a module which they claim support over 1Mbps, but yet have no information anywhere on how to do this.
Just wondering… was there any conclusion on this? Did you contact Roving Networks?
I did email them. A highlight from the many emails:
“The HCI mode is a special build of firmware that needs to be programmed at the factory.”
On a separate note, I really think SparkFun should modify their description of the item in their store. Claiming that the device has over air data rate of 721kbps to 2.0Mbps is a bit misleading. Still can’t beat SparkFun’s price on this part though.
