This stepper looks like it would work for me, except for one thing – the total amount of travel possible. Looking at the print, I estimate that if I capture the leadscrew at one end only, the available travel would be just under 60mm (about 2.4"). I need at least 3 inches of total travel for my project, and would like at 6 if I could get it. Are longer leadscrews available? Or if not, would there be others motor/leadscrew combinations worth looking at? The 29 oz-in of torque should be enough to handle my needs.
Unfortunately this is the only stepper we carry with a lead screw and the lead screw is an oddball size that’s really hard to find anywhere. If you need a longer lead screw, it might be better for you to get a motor that uses a more standard size that way you can just buy off the shelf lead screws and cut them to length.
We’ve heard that [these lead screws fit but we have not been able to confirm that.](http://www.tdvdesign.com/NEMA17Actuator250mmShaft/)
Thank you. I may order the motor later, if I see an application that needs less travel.
On the other hand, I could very likely machine one on my mini-lathe as long as the motor can easily be separated from the leadscrew.
Is that possible, or is the leadscrew captured in some way?
Not captured, you can unscrew it out of the core of the motor.
