Selecting Non-Invasive Current Transformer for Power Measurement Application

Hello,

I am planning to buy Sparkfun Current Transformer (CT) (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11005) to measure current through each of the three phases of supply line connected to a machinery. I am using a commerical power meter from socomec (https://www.socomec.com/range-single-ci … 10_en.html).

I have calculated the max current per phase drawn by machinery and it is less than 20 A, I think this spark fun CT would work just fine. However, I am not sure about the output pin (jack) type connector that comes default with the CT. The power meter requires two inputs (I+ and I-) per current channel.

Is sparkfun CT compatible with my power meter?

Hello RockB.

Even though the connector on the cable for our [Non-Invasive Current Sensor has three conductors, there’s only two wires connected to the connector. You could cut the plug off if you needed to access the wires inside the cable.

Unfortunately I don’t have any way of being able to tell you for sure if these are compatible with your meter, but I imagine with the right size burden resistor they will probably work. You might consult the manufacturer to see if they can assist you with how to determine if a given current sensor is compatible.](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11005)
