That does depend on the application. I believe any circuit with a lower chip count is better (if it works within tolerance). The less to go wrong the better.
Some circuits can not be simplified…but I like digital chips. It makes the design much easier.

wasn’t an intended implication though i would say in most applications digital interfacing is a benefit.
for that matter the difference in size is probably not a benefit for most people here either but it is smaller
