SMD .100 headers

Samtec TSM-series headers are nice for putting standard .100" 1- and 2-row headers on surface mount boards. http://samtec.com/technical_specificati … series=TSM

The specific part TSM-136-01-T-DV is 36x2 and can easily be broken down to smaller sizes as required for specific boards.

A surface mount .100 header is particularly nice for those of us who home-fabricate single sided boards and want headers sticking out of the copper side.

For female sockets, SSM looks like the corresponding series, but I haven’t bought any of these yet.

Samtec will ship small orders direct to customers, but maybe sparkfun could find room for this part in their lineup as well.

Surface mount headers would be nice… Sparkfun?

I’ve played with SMD headers. They are great when you are making a board at home so you don’t have to drill the holes but I see 2 drawbacks from them:

  1. I’ve had trouble getting great mechanical strength. Accidents happen and a lateral shear can pull them right off - especially 4 and 6 pin ones. A 2 pin header is probably a sitting duck.

  2. they take up more space than TH ones.

Neither of these are killers but you should be aware.
