SMiRF (original model) problem

Today I was using my original SMiRF unit and it just stopped working. The red LED on the remote unit just stays ON all the time now. Up until today it has been working quite well. Now, its just dead. Invoking the menu (^S) on the local (USB) unit doesn’t appear to be able to update the configuration of the remote unit (it isn’t clear whether it actually sees it or not either).

I have absolutely no ability to debug the PIC controller on either end (I don’t have any PIC tools or experience), and I have no idea what to do to try to resurrect it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Bob Cook

Hey Bob,

Sorry about that!

We replaced his SMiRF with a new BlueSMiRF at Robothon. Bob had 4 different robots to show! You’re a beast Bob.

Thanks Nathan! Yes its true, the Blue SMiRF is way better than the original SMiRF. If you don’t have one, get one now you’ll not regret it!

What sort of robots have you used it on Bob? Pics!
