"Soldering" the SCP1000

Hi,

Anyone have any tips on trying to swap out a defective SCP1000 with a new one on a dev board?

I mean like I read the VTI stuff about mounting and they basically say forget doing this at home.

Has anyone done it with a hotair rework station?

Sparkfun, how are you guys doing this and at what temperature?

Thanks,

Serge

Hmmm

Looks like I might be trying this:

OK,

So I am not impressed with my Aoyue 968!!

I think the temperatures are not accurate at all and so far I have been able to do nothing useful with the hot air!

I set the temperature to 260 degrees C which should melt solder just fine but nothing happens no matter how long I try and blow around a component.

I guess as the saying goes you get what you pay for.

As far as these SCP1000’s go I wonder how many the Spark Fun guys toasted before achieving a decent success rate?

No worries I am just very ticked off with these SCP1000’s at the moment.

Thanks,

Serge

I was hoping for a reply on how to solder these things :? . Can we get a word from the sparkfun guys? The datasheet says hot air is a big no-no.
