Spaces between wires.

I have brought a gm862 module and I now want to make a pcb for it.

But I have some problems with drawing the wires with Eagle layout.

The problem is, that the space between the pitches on the gm862 smd connecter is smaller than what Eagle allows me to draw with the wires.

Eagles only allow me to have 0.05" space between the wires, so I hope that someone here can tell me how I can change that, so I can make them be closer between them.

Regards,

Simon

Click on the “grid” icon (looks a little bit like a checkerboard) and then you set select the main/alternative grid spacing. You can also set the unit (inches/mils/mm) to whichever is most convenient for your layout.

Under the open folder icon you will see some dots with an down arrow. It will say grid if you leave your mouse over it. Click that and set your grid accordingly.

Thanks for your answers

If you click on the unrouted air wire close to the pin, the grid should not matter. It should automatically snap to the pin. You should be routing away from pins whenever possible and letting Eagle centre the wire on the pin.

exactly. In the case of routing between 2 off-grid pins, you should start from one, go half way, start from the other and meet in the middle.

However, there are a few parts where even this doesn’t work that well. I’ve never been able to do a pretty job of routing D Sub mini connectors, for example.

I’ve noticed that this type of problem may have been addressed in the latest versions of Eagle (I’m using 5.3 at the moment). If you’re routing a wire and you move the cursor over an off-grid pin, it’ll snap the end of the wire to the pin origin. It’s a start, but it’s still far from convenient, so the route-froms-pins-join-in-center technique is still good practice.
