SparkFun Express Unit Auto-Turn Off?

  1. For the SparkFun Express, what are the parameters for auto-off?

We are using it in a bulldozer, and sometimes the operator forgets to turn off the device.

This morning, it was completely drained.

  1. What happens if both charging ports are plugged in on the top of the device for USBC?
  1. Update: next post Just the button…you might mount it somewhere more prominent or in-the-way of leaving for the day (loop keys to it or something). You could also grab a large portable battery bank and have it with usb-c cable to provide backup power in these situations

  2. If you’re asking if it’ll charge twice as fast: no
Both ports are connected to V_USB https://cdn.sparkfun.com/assets/d/a/5/1/b/SparkFun_RTK_Express_-_Schematic.pdf and either will charge the battery.

If you connect both to a power source at once nothing terrible should happen as long as the power sources’ usb voltage is the same…I wouldn’t recommend using 2 different power sources, bc if there is any difference in their voltages, the difference will be turned into heat somewhere in the circuit

Additionally, there is a system setting to enable auto-shut off with no charging:

s for system menu
c for Shutdown if not charging

Sorry, our docs haven’t been updated with this feature but you can set a couple hour run time.

That looks perfect. What is the link with more information how I can access that menu?

I’m assuming it has something to do with some kind of console and USB connection to a PC?

Sorry, should have posted the link to System Menu the first time. Yes, much of the advanced config happens over a serial connection or over Bluetooth.
