Sparkfun Facet - not charging possibly due to loose USB-C

I purchased the Sparkfun Facet recently (1month ago) and I’m experiencing charging issues.

The USB-C feels loose and will only charge after multiple attempts on inserting the USB-C.

Sometimes, charging LED does turn on but any slight bump to the USB-C cable results in the light turning off.

Does trying different usb cables help?

Does the whole connector board move when you insert the USB cable? If yes, the retention plate may not be seated completely. Docs are here.

Here is the connector board being lifted out:

Below is the retention plate:

The retention plate provides a backstop holding the connector board in place. I’ve seen instances where the retention board was not fully seated (screwed down) which allowed the USB and connector board to move, which made it tricky to fully engage the USB cable.

If the connector board does not move, or if the problem is not resolved, let us know and we can issue an RMA to get the device checked out and repaired as needed.

Trying multiple usb cables exhibit the same behavior. Charging light does not turn on but a slight “bump” of the cable will intiate charging; if the Facet is moves from that position charging stops and the dance begins again.

I’ve looked into the retention plate. It’s installation is secure; not moving. Product is great; Just this headache.

Sorry again for the headache! We can either issue an RMA and get the unit checked out, or we can send you a replacement connector board. Let us know.

I’d like the RMA option please.

Very good - please start a return here and link to this forum thread.

Since this was purchased through Mouser, I went through them for the return. After some discussion between Mouser and Sparkfun, an RMA was issued through Sparkfun (RMA: N41326). This device was sent back to Sparkfun for assessment/repair/replacement on 4/23/26. I’ve yet to get any status of this RMA. Any idea how long this should take?

We have it in-hand, repairs usually take 1-4 weeks depending on backlog/parts/etc; it is currently slated for repair

You should get an update once it is fixed (there isn’t a notification step prior to repair) and we’ll send it back out ASAP!

Your unit has been repaired and is being sent back out (via Mouser) ASAP

We are running into a hiccup on how to go about returning this unit.

Chia, I will be sending you a PM shortly.

My apologies here.
