SparkFun OpenLog Artemis with BLE

Hello,

Does anyone have experience using BLE on the Sparkfun Artemis Openlog?

Will there be a Sparkfun Artemis Openlog BLE released?

Regards.

JrV

Hi JrV,

We released v2.0 of the OpenLog Artemis firmware about three weeks ago - based on v2.1.0 of Apollo3. This opens up the possibility of supporting BLE. We have made a start on an initial implementation which will allow you to view the sensor readings over BLE - but it is very much work in progress at the moment. Also, it won’t allow you to configure the OLA via BLE - I’m still trying to wrap my head around whether that is even possible given the huge number of possible configuration options which vary depending on which sensors you have attached.

Thank you for your patience,

Paul

Paul,

This is good news.

I will use the OpenLog Artemis in a (tinyML) research project (start October 2021) in combi with two IMUs: the ICM-20948 (on the OpenLog) and (in the first phase) the XSENS MTi-3 Click https://www.mikroe.com/xsens-mti-3-click (firmware still to write).

If there is a need to test firmware, using the IMU only, let me know.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

JrV

An update on BLE support on OLA:

There are several reasons why we have not implemented BLE support on OLA, including: the extensive changes and restructuring of the OLA code required to add BLE support with Mbed; the level of effort required to implement those changes; new products - coming soon! - where it is much easier to add support for both WiFi and Bluetooth serial port profile (SPP) connectivity.

It was our intention to add BLE support, and I’m sorry we have not done that, but here we are…

Best wishes - and apologies,

Paul
