SparkFun_LiPo_Charger_Plus

Hi.

I just got the SparkFun_LiPo_Charger_Plus yesterday.

I wonder if this board does not require the ESD protection by using any PTS, varistor, or TVS diode.

I have seen EDS protection from other board( ex. SparkFun_STUSB4500_USB-PD).

Greetings, bbr1. Thanks for posting.

Looking into the 2 products it seems like the main reason we use the ESD protection circuit on the STUSB4500 Power Delivery board is because it ismuch more sensitive to ESD than MCP73833 on the LiPo Charger Plus. From the datasheet, the absolute max ESD using the human body model is 3kV for the STUSB4500, whereas the MCP73833 has an absolute max of >4kV using the human body model.

In addition to that, we have been carrying the current version of PRT-15217 for over a year and we have not seen any reports of ESD issues so far.

I hope this helps. Let us know if we can do anything else.
