I’m using the SparkFun Sunny Buddy Solar charger to charge a battery from a solar panel. I’d like to power the load directly from the solar panel AND charge the battery in the morning. And at night, power the load from the batteries.
Can the Sunny Buddy be configured to do that?

Unfortunately, no, the Sunny Buddy is only an MPPT solar charger and cannot power your load directly from the solar panel. You might be able to modify the board to work around that but you could damage the charging circuit in doing so and SparkFun Tech Support cannot assist with customizations of our boards.
