Telit GC864 issues connnecting to tmobile GPRS

I am attempted to get online and send sms messages with the telit GC864 module. I can connect fine to the device and can send AT commands, however when I enter AT#GPRS=1 I always get +CME error: activation failed.

I called up T-mobile tech support and they gave me the apn: epc.tmobile.com with the userid and password “gprs”. This is how I enter the command:

AT+CGDCONT=1,“IP”,“epc.tmobile.com”

Get same error when I try to activate. AT+CSQ gives 99,99 (I have the antenna connected) and AT+CGATT? gives +CGATT: 0

any suggestions? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I have made progress by switching the band to 3 for north america a piece of info I didn’t pick up from the documentation. Still can’t connect to tmobile’s gprs though even though it should be a blank userid and password…

AT+CGDCONT=1,“IP”,“epc.tmobile.com”

AT#SGACT=1,1

+CME Error: activation failed

no matter what I use as a user id and password I get the same results. Tmobile tech support has no other suggestions. Any other ideas or should I go to AT&T?

Got a solution by switching the module to band 1 (AT#BND=1) after that it connected and I can send SMS fine. Hope this will help someone else. :lol:

Thank you. I was trying to get my board to ftp home. The instructions from telit leave out some important points and the ATT folks tried to be helpful but didn’t know much about it. Luckily, they did provide the isp name needed which for ATT is “isp.cingular”. So, I now have a GE864 that is happily talking to my lunix box.
