Here is a URL for a page in my site which describes a DIY FPGA project for very small applications (The device is a Silego SLG44620, which is a 20-pin QFN packaged device approximately the size of a grain of rice). The only changes here from the original EETimes article is grammar/spelling and I have improved the visibility of the Bus Pirate traces.
